Truly British business reaps rewards of stay at home holiday trend
The staycation boom plus a focus on face-to-face customer service has fuelled a truly British holiday business success story.
Holiday home lettings agency Original Cottages has seen:
90% growth in 3.5 years (5,363 cottages compared to 2,900 in April 2016)
Compared to this time last year they have:
17% more weeks booked for October half term
20% more weeks booked for Christmas
35% more weeks booked for 2020 (as compared for 2019 at this time last yea.)
Original Cottages has grown from a kitchen table business, starting life as Norfolk Cottages in 1992. Now it is a national collection of 26 in-destination holiday lettings agencies, with continued growth of inventory and cottage lettings business acquisitions. Original Cottages is still family owned and run from its base in Reepham, Norfolk. It was founded by Richard and Leslie Ellis. Their sons James and Tom are both directors.
Sonia Holman, Marketing Director, says: “We offer our home owners and holidaymakers a truly local face-to-face customer experience, with the accompanying in-destination expertise and on the ground availability that is lacking at online-only holiday cottage portals. We’ve been able to retain our local focus, providing jobs for local people and boosting local tourism throughout our growth.”
